About this show
The Gameshelf is a television show and video podcast about obscure but interesting games, especially board and card games, though we'll cover the odd computer or video game as well. It's produced by Jason McIntosh with the help of many friends and Somerville Community Access Television. The show has no fixed schedule; a new episode comes out whenever we all work up the gumption to make it. Use one of the subscription links above to grab new episodes as soon as they appear online.
By obscure we mean any game which most people, even most "gamers", might know nothing about. In other words, the vast majority of games in existence! It may be more useful to say that we don't feature games that everyone knows about, like the hottest new PlayStation titles, or famous tabletop games like Monopoly or Poker. (Though we may mention interesting variants of them...)
Despite this, all the games we talk about are reasonably easy to get your hands on. Depending upon the game, you might have to go to a speciality hobby store, or poke around online. Sometimes it's only a download away! In any case, each episodes' show notes - all the text attached to each episode posting on this website - lists the games examined in that episode, and provides more information about where you can find them.
If you want to get a game that's still in print, and you are fortunate enough to have your own friendly neighborhood game store, please support it by buying the game there! If you don't live near any game stores, we recommend GameSurplus' mail-order service. Online auction sites such as eBay or BoardGameGeek's marketplace are always a great place to look, too, especially for games that are no longer in print.
Finally, we'd love to hear what you think about the show, whether you're watching the show on local TV or are a far-away Internet viewer! You can leave comments on any episode here, or you can email them to Jmac.
